Polperro House

Polperro House

The wall of this cottage seems to be a part of the limestone cliff. Mineral Point, Wisconsin was settled by Cornish settlers who came to the midwest in the 1830's for the lead mining opportunities in the area. This is one of the limestone cottages that make up the Pendarvis Historic Site in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. Robert Neal and Edgar Hellum bought the first cottage, which they called Pendarvis, in the 1930's and started restoring it and opened a restaruant when it was livable. It is Polperro, a name given by Robertand Edgar for no particular reason other than that they liked the sound of it. The site is now maintained by the Wisconsin Historical Society.
