Winging North

Winging North

These Brown Pelicans were flying up North Captiva island (near Fort Meyer) on a bright June day. The island is still pretty rugged, showing the scars from Hurricane Charley (category 4 in 2004). While they are the smallest of the pelican species, Brown Pelicans are large birds with a wingspan of 6 to 8 feet.
