Everyone thinks of the Great Wall and the Terracotta warriors when someone visits China. We did see those icons but we found the most distinctive characteristic of China is its people. With a population of 1.4 billion, it is the largest country in the world and approximately four times larger than the United States. China's culture is the longest in existence and has evolved over about 5,000 years. There are 56 ethnic groups in China, counting the majority Hans, so it is extremely diverse within itself. We traveled to five major areas in central and southern China, visiting large cities and small villages, and we couldn't possibly see all the beautiful landscapes in this vast country. We saw several though, and here are some of our favorite photos of the people as well as the places.
